SEPDO’s Women Empowerment Program targets young women between the ages of 16 to 30 years of age. Initially starting with 80 young women, this program aimed to empower women through different channels. The first was to to empower women through education. The founders and staff of this program set up a mentorship program with 80 young women living in Hargeisa, Somaliland. In this mentorship, SEPDO staff taught these young women how to read and write the Somali language while also teaching them basic math skills. The second objective of this program is to equip young women on several employable skills such as: applying henna and sewing. With this, women gained the skills to start their own lucrative businesses. Finally, this mentorship program empowered women by educating them about their rights.
